Deployment SDP calculator

The DoD Savings Deposit Program pays 10% a year on up to $10,000 (deposits plus interest) while you serve in a combat zone, a Qualified Hazardous Duty Area, or a direct-support area. Enter your own numbers; results are illustrative.

Deposits
You're eligible after 30 consecutive days in the area (or 1 day in each of 3 consecutive months). Deposits can't exceed your un-allotted pay and allowances.
Navy, Army, and Air Force allotments don't stop automatically at the cap. Stop yours once you reach it.
Interest continues for up to 90 days after departure. DFAS pays out automatically after 120 days.
Program terms
Principal and accrued interest combined. Anything above the cap earns 0%.

Illustrative only. Follows DoD FMR Vol 7A Ch 51: deposits made by the 10th accrue from the 1st of the month, and interest compounds quarterly on the balance up to the cap. Quarters here start at your first deposit rather than the calendar, so real statements will differ slightly. SDP interest is taxable. *The bank comparison is for scale only: the same deposits at an assumed 4% APY, compounded monthly, over the same months.
